About Career‑Confident Mom

Hi, I’m Abigail—a working mom with an HR background who believes career confidence comes from clarity, not guesswork.

Career‑Confident Mom exists for working mothers who want practical, informed guidance on navigating the workplace while raising a family. Here, you’ll find plain‑English HR insights, real‑life experiences, and grounded encouragement to help you advocate for yourself at work without guilt or burnout.

This isn’t about doing it all. It’s about understanding your options and making confident decisions that work for you.

My Path to HR (and Why It Matters)

My career path hasn’t followed a straight line and that perspective shapes everything I share here.

I began my career as a teacher and loved the heart of the work. Although, navigating the school system, especially during COVID, helped me realize it wasn’t the right long‑term fit. After two years, I made the difficult decision to pivot and started researching roles where my skills could transfer. HR kept coming up, and it quickly became clear why.

Breaking into HR wasn’t instant. It took seven months to land my first role in nonprofit HR, a process that taught me patience, persistence, and the importance of timing. That experience is one I often return to because confidence doesn’t come from having everything figured out, but from staying informed and resilient along the way.

Motherhood, Career Growth, and Real Life

During my time in nonprofit HR, I completed my MBA in Organizational Behavior and Human Resources (May 2025) and welcomed my son in Fall 2024.

That season required a lot of adjusting. There were moments when work and school took a backseat to my health and my family, and I learned firsthand that careers don’t move in straight lines. Life ebbs and flows, and progress isn’t erased by pause.

In October 2025, I stepped into a new role in Municipal HR, where I currently work. I love the complexity, the pace, and the impact but like many working moms, I still carry the quiet, persistent question: Am I doing what’s best for my child? That internal dialogue never fully disappears, and it’s one I know many moms recognize instantly.
